While she may look like a cuddly teddy bear at first sight, she is a Selkirk Rex, a unique breed known for their curly fur and photogenic appearance.
Yet, upon closer inspection of her facial expressions, you’ll notice a fierce attitude lurking beneath her adorable exterior. Chirico is one feisty feline.

Bored Panda got in touch with the owner of Chirico, a disgruntled looking cat from Tokyo who is three years old. The owner mentioned that Chirico’s favorite snack is strawberries, evident from the various photos of her enjoying the red fruit. Despite her perpetually unimpressed expression, the owner clarified that Chirico is actually a sweet and expressive cat with a wide range of faces. One of her most common expressions is a yawning face.

The Selkirk Rex cat breed made its debut in Montana back in 1987 and has quickly become a fan favorite for its unique wavy fur. This distinctive fur is a result of a natural mutation found in a litter of kittens from a blue tortoiseshell and a white cat.
According to the Cat Fancier’s Association, Selkirk Rexes can have either short or long fur. The care for both lengths of fur is similar to that of regular shorthair or longhair cats. Regular brushing is important to maintain the curly coat, but it doesn’t need to be as frequent.
To keep their fur looking luscious, special hair treatments are recommended. The Association suggests using shampoos that won’t coat the hair but leave the cat feeling silky and clean, allowing the curls to shine.
